Krista Nylen, maid of honor. Krista and I were introduced by mutual acquaintances one August day in 1999 at the South Shore Plaza mall in Braintree, MA. I like to think we instantly fell in friend-love. Krista is the Rachel to my Monica, the Marissa to my Summer, the Kelly to my Brenda (minus the fighting over guys and wearing the same dress to prom). Krista is not only an MBA, she’s also a virtual pop culture encyclopedia. Keep an eye out for her performance of *N Sync routines on the dance floor at the wedding. She currently puts her strategy skills to work for healthcare company Evolent in San Francisco.
Erin Costa, bridesmaid. If you need a lawyer who can chase down an iPhone thief and sing along to “Ignition Remix” all while rocking a pashmina and pearls, Erin is your gal. Erin and I attended both Milton Academy and Boston College together so have had plenty of opportunity to perfect our friend chemistry. As I said at her wedding last June, Erin is the type of friend who sends hand-written cards just to say hello. Erin currently lives in Boston’s South End and works as an attorney at Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius.
Kate Perez, bridesmaid. Kate’s natural artistic talent and laser-sharp precision led us to predict in high school that she’d either be a cake decorator or an architect. She chose the latter, and has killed it ever since (currently working at The CIM Group on this building). Kate also is a world-champion Irish step dancer, but at the wedding you’ll likely see her dancing to some 90s hip hop. Kate and I met our freshman year at Milton Academy, where she never failed to make me laugh at inappropriate times (and continues to do so as our neighbor in NYC!).
Liz Sheldon, bridesmaid. Liz and I met in New York City in 2009 when we both worked for a small culinary magazine that shall not be named... We fast became friends, working long hours running around the city together collecting obscure ingredients and bonding over a love of Thai noodles. Liz is my resident cool-expert, keeping me up to date on the latest jewelry trends and ramen spots, but is also one of the nicest, most caring people I’ve ever met. Liz currently lives in Brooklyn and works as an editor for the website, Of A Kind.
Amanda Denes, bridesmaid. Amanda is the world’s coolest professor, schooling college kids at UCONN by day and dominating at dodgeball by night. Amanda and I met at Boston College and fell in friend-love when we studied abroad in London together, sharing a 200 sq foot flat (don't ask her about the mini fridge) and attempting to visit a McDonald’s in every city we visited. I call Amanda my “big sis” since she taught me important life lessons like how to master the "smoky eye” (and provides amazing life advice, too).
Phil Pitt, brideman. Phil and I attended Milton Academy together, becoming the best of friends while playing hangman in Biology Class (sorry Mr. La) and catching up on American Idol at my parent’s house. After college, Phil and I were roommates for two amazing years - one year in Davis Square, Somerville and one year in the North End, Boston. We had way too much fun together watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, playing Uno, and drinking Wyler’s Light cocktails (ask him for the recipe!). Phil currently lives in Boston and works in legal recruiting at Ropes & Gray.
Jeff Mitchell is a scholarly man with hunting dogs and guns. Bohemian carefree with Norman Rockwell sentimentality. We met at Middlebury and lived together for a number of years there. Subsequently we have shared countless adventures in the New York City. On a now-famous occasion in college he forgot a subway sub in the microwave and then blamed me when he couldn't find it later on in the fridge. Jeff, you're the best man, but that one time was totally your bad.
Angus McCoubrey was born in Philadelphia, but was baptized in the temple of emo pop punk through his legendary early 00's rock band "First on Mars." We also met in college, where he juggled school, music, Beirut and poker in a miraculous scheme that resembled Seuss' cat in the hat balancing fish bowls on umbrellas. We lived together in Chinatown, NYC where we experienced culture shock, bedbugs and the numerous other joys of residing in an unregulated building.
Tim Shepherd is America's first Federal Court Clerk to do an acoustic cover of "Baby one more time" in a Davis square dive. My concern is that years later when someone googles "Tim Shepherd for Senate" this page will come up. So Tim is the most intelligent, fair and balanced New York Attorney General of all time. The people of New York State deserve SHEPHERD.
Can't have a wedding without Texas, and so we invited Fort Worth's one and only James Gorski. James navigated the Middlebury Vermont ice in cowboy boots, with back pockets stuffed with a flask of rock n rye and a mid century beat novella. James returned to the larger-than-France state to pursue an MBA, achieve a residential proprietor status, and do his (swear to god) fracking inspired dance move. Which by the way is basically walk-like-an-Egyptian with drill noises.
Phil Chevalier joins us from Hong Kong, where he's either signing deals on the 110th floor or scuba'ing 150 feet below the surface. Phil and I were colleagues in Boston, New York, and I took the first opportunity I found to join him at his latest pursuit. Phil is his unique ability to fearlessly pursue (and close) the toughest lead he can find. If they discovered a giant asset manager on Mars, Phil would beat Matt Damon to the demo. And have them live on the system by Q2.
Sarah Shaikh is SoCal cool with Wall Street cred. Not only did she take care of this whole Middlebury crew when we were in Vermont, she also introduced me to New York City. Sometimes I say things like "Yeah, I used to hang out at the Rivington hotel, no big deal". Fact of the matter is that Sarah not only finagled us into every cool place we ever went, I'm pretty sure I don't even know how to get to the Rivington hotel without her physical direction.
A ring bearer should be trustworthy and fleet-of-foot, and we scored both in hiring Caitlin's nephew Anders. Wise beyond his years, Anders is already a veteran NYC explorer and a worldly Apples-to-Apples ringer. This Minecraft visionary volunteered time away from virtual resource management to take care of our ceremony's most important objects IRL. A big "Thank You!" to Anders for helping with this crucial task.
